Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has found himself in trouble with the International Cricket Council once again, receiving an official fine and a demerit point following a heated on-field altercation with England all-rounder Will Jacks during a dramatic tri-series encounter in Lahore.

The latest disciplinary action adds to a growing file of conduct breaches for the fiery paceman, who was previously suspended for two One-Day Internationals last year. The incident occurred on October 25, 2026, during a tense passage of play at the Gaddafi Stadium, intensifying an already gripping match that ultimately concluded with a thrilling, nail-biting victory for the hosts.

According to the official statement released by the ICC on Wednesday, Rauf admitted to breaching Article 2.20 of the governing body’s code of conduct. The regulation explicitly relates to "displaying conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game." Having accepted the charge leveled by the on-field match officials, Rauf agreed to the proposed sanctions, which include a fine amounting to 20 percent of his match fee along with the addition of a single demerit point to his disciplinary record.

The confrontation unfolded near the dramatic climax of the game, right at the end of the 46th over. Rauf, stationed at the non-striker’s end, grew visibly and audibly frustrated when on-field umpire Sharfuddoula opted not to signal a wide delivery after England bowler Sam Curran bowled a short-pitched ball to Pakistan batter Shadab Khan. Visibly agitated by the decision, Rauf angrily waved his bat in the direction of England fielder Will Jacks, who was positioned at mid-on.

As the tension escalated, Rauf continued to march aggressively toward Jacks, prompting umpire Sharfuddoula to physically intervene in an attempt to restrain the fast bowler and de-escalate the situation. Despite the umpire’s intervention, Rauf continued a verbal back-and-forth with Jacks before veteran England batter Joe Root stepped in to help calm the situation down, eventually guiding the fast bowler away and restoring order on the field.

Rauf fined, handed demerit point for Jacks altercation

Despite the high-octane drama and the momentary loss of composure, the match itself continued toward a sensational finish. Pakistan ultimately went on to secure a dramatic one-wicket victory, overcoming a steep challenge to claim the win. A thoroughly fired-up Rauf played a direct role in the game’s heroic conclusion, hitting the winning boundary off England debutant Henry Crocombe to seal an improbable comeback victory with 17 balls remaining in the innings. The competitive heat of the battle appeared to dissipate once the final runs were scored, as Rauf and Jacks were spotted having a calm, amicable conversation later during the traditional post-match handshakes between the two opposing squads.

While the match ended in triumph for the home side, the repercussions of Rauf’s on-field behavior carry significant long-term consequences for the bowler’s availability in international cricket. This latest sanction marks the fifth demerit point Rauf has accumulated over the past fourteen months, highlighting an ongoing disciplinary concern for the fiery fast bowler.

The accumulation of demerit points operates under a strict rolling two-year window enforced by the ICC. Because this fifth point falls within that regulated timeframe, Rauf now sits on a precarious disciplinary tightrope. If he accumulates three further demerit points between now and September 13 of next year—precisely within 24 months of his very first recorded offense—he will automatically trigger a mandatory four-match suspension from international competition.

This latest punishment follows a history of disciplinary challenges for the fast bowler. Rauf was previously banned for two matches following two separate breaches of the ICC’s code of conduct during last year’s Asia Cup. Those prior infractions, coupled with this recent penalty against England, underline a recurring pattern of emotional intensity on the field that the match officials and the governing body are monitoring closely.

Beyond the individual sanction handed down to Rauf, the match officials also penalized the touring England side for maintaining a slow over-rate throughout the course of the fixture. The England team was ruled to have fallen three overs behind the required schedule by the end of their fielding allocation. Consequently, every member of the England playing XI was handed a fine equivalent to 15 percent of their respective match fees. England captain Harry Brook accepted the charge on behalf of his team and acknowledged the sanction without contesting the decision, bringing a swift administrative close to the team-wide penalty resulting from the hard-fought encounter in Lahore.
