The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially relocated the ongoing first-class President’s Trophy Grade 1 tournament matches away from Peshawar and Abbottabad. This decisive operational shift comes in the wake of escalating political turmoil in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where both cities are situated. The federal government of Pakistan has taken the extraordinary step of declaring a state of emergency and imposing governor’s rule across the region, prompting immediate security reassessments for all public and sporting events scheduled within the provincial boundaries.
The President’s Trophy, a premier domestic red-ball competition in Pakistan, has utilized a multi-city hosting model for the current 2026-27 season. Prior to the security-related disruptions, the tournament’s fixtures had been distributed across four distinct urban centers, with Islamabad and Rawalpindi serving as the other two primary hosts alongside Peshawar and Abbottabad. While the matches taking place in the federal capital of Islamabad and neighboring Rawalpindi remain entirely unaffected and will continue precisely as scheduled—with the sixth round of the league stage commencing on Monday—the fixtures originally slated for Peshawar’s Imran Khan Stadium and the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium have required urgent logistical intervention from tournament organizers.
Under the updated schedule released by the PCB, the matches that were meant to be played in the troubled northern region have been moved south to Punjab. Play is now set to begin from October 14 at alternative venues. The fixture between Ghani and the Hyderabad Kingsmen Academy has been shifted to the Rana Naveed Academy located in Sheikhupura. Meanwhile, the high-stakes encounter between Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has been relocated to the LCCA Ground, which is situated directly adjacent to the historic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
The ongoing round of the tournament represents the penultimate stage of the tightly contested league phase. According to information gathered by Cricinfo, the LCCA Ground will not only host the current week’s encounters but is also scheduled to accommodate the crucial last-round fixture between Markhor IT Solutions and Pakistan Television (PTV). Concurrently, the National Cricket Ground in Islamabad will take on the fixture featuring Hyderabad Kingsmen Academy against the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), complementing the matches already running at the Diamond Club ground, which serves as the other designated venue utilized within the federal capital.

In order to accommodate these sudden venue changes and ensure equitable rest and travel periods for the competing squads, the PCB has announced a minor adjustment to the calendar. The final round of league matches has been pushed back by a single day and is now scheduled to commence on October 19. The league stage of the President’s Trophy operates under a traditional and demanding round-robin format. Throughout this phase, all eight participating teams face one another once in a battle for supremacy on the points table. Upon the conclusion of the round-robin matches, the top two teams in the standings will advance to compete head-to-head in the tournament’s grand final, though the specific venue for the title clash has yet to be formally confirmed by the board.
The relocation of these matches represents a temporary setback for the PCB’s broader strategic vision of revitalizing top-flight red-ball and white-ball cricket in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The Abbottabad Cricket Stadium has historically served as a regular venue for first-class cricket, offering scenic vistas and reliable pitches that have traditionally favored competitive multi-day contests. More recently, senior men’s domestic cricket made a welcome return to the Imran Khan Stadium in Peshawar during the previous season after a prolonged absence of almost seven years, marked by a hiatus that ended when the venue successfully hosted nine Quaid-e-Azam Trophy matches. Following extensive infrastructure renovations and improvements to player and spectator facilities, the PCB had expressed a strong, ongoing commitment to establishing the ground as a permanent hub for elite domestic competition.
Peshawar’s aspirations to host major national fixtures had also received a boost when the city was allotted its maiden Pakistan Super League (PSL) fixture earlier in the year. That historic allocation followed rigorous hosting capability trials conducted during the National T20 Cup earlier in the season. However, the PCB was previously forced to curtail those regional hosting plans, restricting the tournament strictly to Lahore and Karachi in compliance with stringent federal government fuel-conservation measures implemented in response to the broader West Asia crisis. The latest emergency measures and governor’s rule have now added a fresh layer of logistical complexity to the board’s regional scheduling ambitions.
On the field, the competition has reached a fascinating juncture as the teams navigate the final stretches of the round-robin campaign. The State Bank of Pakistan currently sets the pace at the summit of the President’s Trophy points table, commanding a formidable lead with 84 points accumulated from their consistent performances throughout the season. They are pursued closest by Ghani, who occupy second position on the standings with 70 points, keeping the pressure on the league leaders as the tournament enters its business end.
Further down the table, the battle for playoff contention and mid-table respectability remains wide open. Hyderabad Kingsmen Academy, Pakistan Television, Markhor IT Solutions, and the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited have each secured at least one victory during the course of the campaign, keeping them mathematically engaged in the broader race. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Khan Research Laboratories and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited—notable as the two finalists from last season’s hard-fought campaign—find themselves searching for form and are yet to register a single win in the current edition of the tournament, leaving them with considerable ground to make up as the league stage moves toward its rescheduled conclusion.
